Black & White
“The ideas for this chapter were based on the influence of the 40s and 50s luxury fashion. Just a quick glance at that classic era already highlights a lot of prominent features; the cinched waist, round shoulders, and the A-line skirt. I have always been fascinated by such articulated feminine silhouette, so I put these charming elements together with a mix of architectural perspective to create an hourglass shape ,” said Chavanon Caisiri, the house’s creative director.
In the Black & White section, POEM embarks on a journey to discover the idea of uniformity and power dressing. When adapting such concept into the designing philosophy, the house’s goal for this collection was to create something that resembles a uniform, not just an ordinary one, but the one with a tactful twist that can complement body structures, empowering the wearer regardless of occasions. This section features white shirts with bow or white jackets, pairing with a black pencil skirt with fish tail or a full A-line skirt in black.
Little Black Dresses
The Little Black Dresses section, however, embraces more story-driven elements. “The LBD set is more of a reference to my past visits to Paris, the heaven realm of fashion,” Chavanon added.
“My mother studied in the art of French dressmaking and I also did a lot of researches on fashion and costume history. The foundations of POEM have been strengthened through the study of vintage fashion. We had some trips to Paris together in the past years and I would always be drawn to museums and those amazing French haute couture shops. If you spend some times wandering around the street of Paris, walking by flea-markets and selected shops, you might stumble upon some hidden vintage clothing stores with exquisite atelier craftsmanship.”
One of Chavanon’s favorite is Didier Ludot’s haute couture boutique in Palais Royals that is well known for keeping distinctive, stunning, and museum-grade high fashion pieces. “Every time I decided to visit those haute couture places, I was always drawn to the sense of mysterious yet exciting journey. This kind of vintage fashion doesn’t come to you. You have to let your passions lead you to it.”
Chavanon refers to his past trips to Paris as his own version of the journey to chase Mary Magdalene, his own holy grail of fashion. The LBD section was designed with such main idea in mind. Black color symbolizes the mystery and secrecy, resembling “the holy grail” or the hidden high fashion in Paris and the journey one must take on to find it. This section features jet black geometric dresses in different fabrics ranging from velvet to light-weight synthetic polyester, giving off the sense of mysterious yet alluring charms to the wearer.
